Kuku & Kesihatan: Ketahui Tanda-Tandanya

Kuku Retak Atau Terbelah

Garisan Gelap Di Bawah Kuku

10 surprising things that boost your health

Boost your health by taking photographs

Taking photographs

If you find yourself getting snap happy on a holiday or night out, this may be no bad thing. Research suggests that recalling good memories and having a positive view of the past can help boost happiness levels and health, yet according to separate research we find it more difficult to recall good memories than bad ones. If you have trouble focusing on happy memories, try compiling some photo albums of your favourite moments for an instant health and happiness boost.

Stress

While we all know about the health dangers of long-term stress, stress in short bursts can actually strengthen your immune system. In cases of acute stress, the body prepares itself for danger or threat (the fight-or-flight response) through the release of hormones including cortisol, which causes a short term boost to the immune system. So next time you find yourself getting tense before a job interview, presentation or big sports match, take consolation in the fact that you are doing your immune system a favour.

Surfing the internet

Think that browsing Facebook and searching for celebrity gossip is a waste of time? Think again. Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles found that searching the web helps boost brain health in those middle-aged and older, and could even prevent some of the effects that ageing has on the brain. The study found that browsing the internet stimulated the areas of the brain that control language and memory as well as helping to improve decision-making and complex reasoning.

Crying

We all know that laughter is good for us, but the surprising news is that shedding some tears could also do wonders for your health. Researchers at the University of South Florida found that 88.8 per cent of people feel better after crying, while it has been suggested that crying helps release the chemicals that build up in our bodies during times of stress. So, next time you feel yourself welling up after a weepy movie or emotional day, give your health and mood a boost by letting the tears flow.

Getting married

Multiple research studies and statistics suggest that those who are married live longer than singletons due to the fact they experience less social isolation. Furthermore, while it’s never a standalone reason for raising kids, research suggests that if you decide to start a family you could boost your health even more. A study of over 1.5 million men and women found that having one to two children reduces your risk of numerous conditions including cancer, alcoholism and heart disease.

Housework

It may not be your favourite activity, yet keeping your home clean and tidy could help you stay fit and healthy and keep off those extra pounds. According to a poll on household chores, the average person walks more than 22 miles and burns off 50,000 calories a year while cleaning their home, making it a great alternative to the gym. Furthermore, research funded by Cancer Research UK found that doing household chores can reduce women’s risk of breast cancer by 30 per cent in pre-menopausal women and 20 per cent in those post-menopause.

Having a big bum

If you regularly spend hours in the gym trying to trim inches off your thighs or bum, it may be time you stopped and showed your curves a little appreciation instead. While you may despair of your curvy rear end, research shows that fat stored in this area mops up harmful fatty acids, contains an anti-inflammatory that prevents arteries from clogging, and cuts your risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

Dirt

With the soaring popularity of anti-bacterial hand gels, clothing and washing products, it is easy to believe that dirt is the ultimate enemy. However, while it is generally good to pay attention to hygiene, a little bit of dirt could be better for you than you think. Contrary to popular belief, being sterile doesn’t keep you healthy and in fact research suggests that exposure to friendly bacteria found in soil can actually help boost the immune system and alleviate depression.

Beer

While many of us associate beer with beer bellies, drinking this popular tipple in moderation could actually have more health benefits than red wine. Research studies have shown that moderate consumption of beer can help reduce risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and dementia. On top of this, beer is rich in many nutrients, including magnesium, selenium and B vitamins, and contains a cancer-fighting compound found in hops.

Your friends

It seems to be relatively rare that the things we love are good for us, yet in the case of our friends this is definitely the case. Research suggests that your friends can help you live longer by reducing feelings of depression, stress and risky behaviour, and encouraging you to look after your health. In fact, a study by Brigham Young University found that having a good social network boosts your survival chances by 50 per cent, while having few friends affects you longevity as much as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

6 Ciri Lelaki Yang Mampu Memikat Hati Wanita

5) Selalu senyum Senyuman adalah ‘make up’ terbaik bagi seseorang lelaki.

Scariest Places On Earth

By Michele Koh Morollo | Y! Travel Journal

The Tower of London, England

Having witnessed numerous tortures, murders and executions over the course of 1,000 years, it’s no wonder this infamous tower is home to dozens of ghosts: among them famous historical figures like Lady Jane Grey and Ann Boleyn, who were both beheaded in the tower; as were Thomas Becket, Sir Walter Raleigh and the Countess of Salisbury, who was hacked to death by the executioner when she tried to escape the noose and scaffold.

Aradale Mental Hospital, Australia
In the rural city of Ararat in Victoria lies the abandoned Aradale hospital. Opened in 1867, Aradale is Australia’s biggest abandoned lunatic asylum, and its conditions were one of the most appalling at the time, with many patients suffering from cruel treatment. More than 13,000 people died within its walls, and their ghosts can sometimes be felt or seen by those brave enough to explore its cells, rooms and morgue.

Tambun Inn, Malaysia
Tambun Inn in Ipoh has a slew of ghost stories. Some guests have reported lights in their rooms being mysteriously turned on and off, while others say they’ve been awakened by eerie whispers in their ears in the middle of the night. Many have seen the ghost of an old woman passing through the corridors.

Diplomat Hotel, Philippines
On top of Dominican Hill in Baguio City is the now abandoned Diplomat Hotel. Before it was developed into a hotel, the building was a seminary founded in 1911; and during World War II, many nuns and priests were beheaded there. Guests and employees often saw headless apparitions in the hotel; and even when it closed in 1987 after the death of its owner, the sightings still persist.

Okiku’s Well, Japan
Himeji Castle in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited castles in Japan. It is also home to one of the most haunted sites in the country – Okiku’s Well. Legend has it that a samurai named Aoyama lived in the castle and had a maid who refused to give in to his advances. To preserve her honour, she threw herself into the castle’s well and drowned. Her ghost supposedly rises from the well every night and sobs eerily. Trivia: The legend of Okiku’s Well was what inspired the Japanese horror film Ringu.

The Savoy Hotel, India
Located in the hill station Mussoorie in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India, The Savoy Hotel was where a spiritualist named Lady Orme died from poisoning. It is said that her spectre can be seen meandering through its halls. Fun fact: The Savoy was also the inspiration for Agatha Christie’s 1920 novel The Mysterious Affair at The Styles.

Tuen Mun Road, Hong Kong
Because of the many road accidents that have occurred here over the years, many claim that Tuen Mun Road in Hong Kong is haunted. The superstitious even believe that some of the more recent deaths may have been a result of drivers swerving off to avoid hitting phantom figures popping up unexpectedly in the middle of the road.

The Normandie Apartment, Shanghai
Designed by famous Hungarian architect Ladislav Hudec, this French Renaissance-style apartment block was built in 1924, and was home to numerous Chinese film stars. A young actress who killed herself jumping out the window supposedly haunts the unit on the seventh floor.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium, USA
One of the most notorious haunted places in America, Waverly Hills in Kentucky was a sanatorium in the early 20th century for those suffering from tuberculosis. Many spooky apparitions have been seen here: among them an old woman with heavy shackles around her arms and legs, a little girl on the third floor with no eyes playing with a ball, and a pregnant nurse who hung herself in Room 502. Some people have also reported hearing sounds of children chanting, “Ring a ring a roses” coming from the empty rooftop.

Bhangarh Fort, India
Legend has it that there was an evil magician spurned by a beautiful princess living in the town of Bhangarh in Rajasthan. He placed a curse on the town and its fort, and war and disaster ensued for centuries. Since then, locals claim that the place has been shrouded in darkness. The site is even said to be so famously haunted that the Indian government has put up a sign restricting visitors from entering after sunset.

The Catacombs, France
To the south of Paris are the famous Catacombs, an underground 18th century ossuary that is home to the bones and skulls of more than six million Parisians. As if being surrounded by a wall of skeletons in a dimly lit subterranean cemetery isn’t scary enough, people have reported hearing ghostly cries and being touched by dark shadows while walking along its somber tunnels.

The Stanley Hotel, Colorado
Made famous by the Stanley Kubrick movie based on Stephen King’s book The Shining, The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park Colorado is supposedly haunted by the man who built it, F.O. Stanley. He and his wife Flora can sometimes be seen playing the piano in the ballroom. But the fourth floor is said to be the most haunted place in the hotel: The ghosts of children have been seen in Room 418, while Room 407 has a spirit who supposedly likes to turn the lights on and off.

The 16 Smartest People on Earth

By Dina Spector and Shlomo Sprung | Business Insider

IQ is a problematic measure of intelligence. Many have never been tested, while others have taken the test many times to improve their scores. Still, psychologists consider it the best measurement of intelligence out there.

So who has the highest score?
The World Genius Directory, created by Dr. Jason Betts, is a fluid list of the world's top mind compiled from certified IQ tests sent in by listees. Betts says his site is the definitive ranking.

"Other [IQ] websites had existed, and some still do, but they are based and limited by local constraints, for example, written in Spanish, for Europeans only, only accept their friends' tests, and so on," Betts told us in an email. The directory "has no preferences nor bias, except test quality."

The average score on an IQ test is 100. Most people fall within the 85 to 114 range. Any score over 140 is considered a high IQ. A score over 160 is considered a genius IQ.

If you're wondering, Betts includes himself on the directory. His IQ is 168.
